SUMMER 2013 INTERN - 2D ANIMATION


Expand your skillset into the world of animation! Walt Disney Animation Studios Summer Internship Program is an eight-week experience designed for students studying art, design, animation, computer graphics, graphics engineering, film & media, and production management. As a Walt Disney Animation Studios intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with a Disney mentor as you explore all aspects of art, storytelling, and filmmaking. This immersive program offers hands-on experience focused on individual craft and multidisciplinary team collaboration. 

The 2013 Summer Intern program will be held at our Burbank, CA studio starting Monday, June 17, 2013.

2D Animators are responsible for bringing characters (animals and human figures) to life using hand-drawn artwork. They work closely with the film’s Director, Animation Supervisor, and Supervising Animators to establish the style of movement and personality for the character.
 
Reels demonstrated skills should include:
  • Strong draftsmanship showcasing significant understanding of gesture, form, anatomy, and appeal
  • Acting, Acting, Acting! A reel should consist of a broad range of acting exercises that both tell a story and showcase a strong sense of Personality: pantomime, dialogue, walk cycle, weight
  • Focus on different styles of emotion: Subtle as well as broad moments and use of comedy, drama, subtext
  • Reels should also focus on a diversity of character personalities to create entertaining and emotionally driven believable performances
  • Life Drawings required
  • Sketchbook samples, animal zoo drawings required
  • Maya exposure helpful
  • Uploaded digital or online reels preferred
Application Requirements:
  • The deadline for applications is Monday, April 16 at 11:59 PM PST
  • The deadline for international applications is Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:59 PM PST
  • You must be a current student returning to school in the Fall of 2013
  • Create or update your online profile at at careers.disneyanimation.com/login where you must include a resume and reel/portfolio/reel breakdown (where applicable) 
  • You must upload a letter of recommendation from your university's program chair or full-time faculty to your online profile
